In over 25 years of my career in the health care industry I had national, European and global responsibility in scientific and commercial functions. Since 2014 I help my clients to build effective international teams delivering relevant support to their local affiliates, i.e. through the development of contemporary customer programs.


During my time as an employee I repeatedly established new teams, business units and business strategies for Eli Lilly and Cardiome.
We formed and implemented a virtual, intercultural, transnational organisation with high potential teams in the first European matrix organisation within Eli Lilly Europe.

Upon my initiative and contacts to leading Professors and Companies, a charitable organisation was founded in 2008, the “European Critical Care Foundation” (eccf) with the aim to support independent medical research in areas not supported so far.


The development and implementation of new methods for internal and external communication between medical professionals using virtual tools, services and approaches are part of new business models and part of my expertise.
My cooperation with three European Universities resulted in 3 PhD studies based on the new business model: Pablo Erat and Heiko Richter focused on my areas of responsibility (Business Communities & Communication), Daniel von Wittich looked at the leadership structure of the organisation.

Excellent relationship with opinion leaders up to the highest level

I have easy access to key customers due to my scientific background and my trustful and close cooperation with medical executives such as board members of medical societies. I am a true partner, i.e. in the co-chairing of the writing team “A white paper of scientific communication” together with the president of the ESC in 2011.

Scientific Communication

Anja co-chaired together with the president of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) a task force to develop a manuscript for a white paper on scientific communication. The paper was published in the European Heart Journal.

2008 – 2010: Eli Lilly International Head of Medical Education for Europe
Establishment of a medical education solutions concept across Europe for all Eli Lilly brands. Supervise teams in a matrix organisation to develop and execute customer programs in Europe, Asia and South America. Establish actively used internet portals.
2007 - 2009: Director, Medical Education Lilly Critical Care Europe
Management within a matrix organisation (Critical Care Europe) as a new concept for Eli Lilly to market highly specialized drugs across Europe. Establishment of an international Medical Education / Medical Science Liaison Team (intensive care and cardiovascular). Establishment of the first virtual “medical liaison” team serving customers in 25 countries 24 hours, 7 days a week. Building of “Innovation Deep Dive” to develop future services in partnership with customers. Leadership and communication co‐operations with the Universities of St. Gallen, Lausanne and Heidelberg . Implementation of knowledge communities across functional and national borders in Europe. Internal and external communication and lobbying with medical societies.
2004 - 2007: Director, Content- and Knowledge Management
Development and implementation of industrial selling approach for highly specialized drugs. Establishment of internal and external Knowledge Communities / Matrix Organisation. Interdisciplinary management of Medical/Sales/Marketing/CRM departments.
Implementation of CRM solutions across Europe. Development of innovative marketing and CRM projects (Customer Portals in Cardiology). Development of a European content team including all marketing and training activities.

Development of the e-marketing and e-selling strategy (e-detailing, e-visits and e-meetings).
